Hot and Healthy – Thriving Through Menopause One Pound at a Time – Day 49, March 30, 2024

One of the cat “spares” woke me up too early. Since I had a 9am appointment with a patent attorney, I stayed up. The meeting was super productive. It had to do with my Cat Rescue, and it made me totally stoked after the call.

I had breakfast, my protein shake and then did a wake up fat burn from GrowwithJo.

Then it was time to think. And lay on my Tens Unit with heating pad accompaniment.

If you have lower back problems, you need a Tens Unit.

Having gone to chiropractors since I was 23, many of them used Tens Units on me. These were definitely more “industrial” than what you need at home, but it was my first introduction to them.

It wasn’t until MANY years later that I found out you could buy one for home use. When I married Hubby #2, he came with one. Totally made moving to Philadelphia from California worth it.

Just kidding.

That’s another story...

Tens Units.

Here’s a fun quip. Every year in New Jersey there is/was an Erotica Convention. Hubby #2 and I would go. One time there was a booth selling erotic “devices”. Well, Hubby #2 and I were quite curious. Wouldn’t you be? Well, they had a Tens Unit that they put directly on the parts of you that could be electrically sexually stimulated. The booth person put them directly on my nipples. OMG what a sensation. You could re-route the path of the electricity and other neat stuff.

That is not what I am recommending, but what you do at home is your business.

There are two Tens Units that I will recommend, and I am recommending them to my audience, which is typically over the age of 18. I don’t know what people should avoid electric stimulation units. I used to avoid them due to my SVT but that was a personal choice not a doctor recommendation.

Here’s the deal, I will not be blamed for your stupidity if you do not read the directions or if you put on the stimulation pads and turn on the machine full force.

I will not be blamed for anything this machine or anything I recommend does to you. Why? Because God help you, you are an adult. You have doctors, you have the internet, etc., ask questions and do your research. Seriously.

A Tens Unit is not a toy. It is a piece of medical equipment and must be treated as such. That being said, yes, we can buy them for home use, and a Tens Unit is AMAZING on the shoulders and lower back. But it IS medical equipment.

The Tens Unit is not cheap, nor do you want a cheap one. Ours has lasted more than 8 years at least. Expect to spend anywhere from $40.00 to $500.00. Depends on if you want basic or one with all the bells and whistles.

I own a HiDow, 12 speed Tens Unit which is about $190.00 on Amazon as of this posting. Here is the link to the newest version: https://amzn.to/3PFMEIU

The cheaper version has an Amazon price of $164.99 has 8 speeds and is just as good: https://amzn.to/49ipvmL

So I laid on my heating pad, with my hot flashes and Tens Unit and thought. I think when I watch re-runs of shows, so I’m binge watching “The Gilmore Girls” for the 2nd time.

Part of my head was planning dinner. Having already taken out 2 tuna steaks, they needed to be cooked.

Tuna Steaks should only be marinated for 30 minutes or less because a marinade can “cook” the tuna and it then becomes tough when you sear it. Well, hubby’s gets a simple sear, mine gets cooked through. Either way it was very yummy, and it was served with red curried, sun-dried tomato mashed potatoes and broccoli with white miso, ginger, and garlic. Add the red curry gently, the stuff is quite spicy.

Then, once I had cooked the veggies, I did my first Pilates workout and enjoyed it quite a bit.
