The Difference Between Protein Shakes
Why is there so much information to learn when you are trying to lose weight and stay healthy?
So I was reading the current AARP Magazine and came across this article:
https://www.aarp.org/health/drugs-supplements/info-2024/top-protein-powder.html
Shit, now I need to pay attention to what type of protein powder? I am not a true vegan, I am not a true vegetarian, but I severely limit how much animal protein I take in whether it is meat, dairy or eggs. Right now, I am drinking a vegan, veggie Pea Powder Protein Shake and here were my requirements for a protein shake:
· It has to be chocolate
· It has to be organic
· Must have little to no cholesterol
· Little or no added salt
· Minimal added sugar
· No sugar substitutes like stevia or saccharin.
But the AARP article says I should also be taking in some animal protein, in the form of Whey protein so I am adding one serving to my daily regime.
The AARP also article states we should be getting at least 90 grams of protein a day and I already gave you a protein calculator and that should help you determine, with your doctor if needed, how much added protein you should be taking in each day to maintain muscle, and/or build muscle, and if you are trying to lose weight, which I am.
That’s a lot of liquid.
The little things I eat I a day add up to somewhere between 5 and 10 grams of protein, IF I have dinner with a meat or fish of some sort, it adds some more protein, yet it is still not nearly enough. Maybe I get 30 grams of protein from eating solid foods in a day.
So, here is what I am going to do:
I am going to drink my Aloha Shakes twice a day, adding 1 extra scoop of protein to each shake making each one about 27 grams of protein for a total of 54 grams of protein. Then I am going to add one serving of whey protein shake during the day for another 25 grams. Her is the Whey Protein I bought off of Amazon: https://amzn.to/3UoCkYw
I have yet to try it yet.
This is Naked Whey 1LB - All Natural Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder, Organic Chocolate, and Coconut Sugar - No GMO, No Soy, and Gluten Free, Aid Growth and Recovery - 12 Servings
Well, that seems to meet my qualifications except for some cholesterol and added sugars but since it will not be my primary source of protein, it does not worry me too much. I may only take it every other day when I do weights and dumbbells. It’ll be a wait and see thing.
I did not work out while hubby’s weekend was here, and I blew off today due to this depression I am in. I hate feeling lazy, but you need to give yourself time to process stuff when you need to. I know this will not last. My funks last a few days then I pop back out of them.
If you or someone you know is depressed, please try and get help. There is hope.
If you or anyone you know is thinking about suicide, please call the National Suicide Hotline immediately, the number is 988.
