Menopause and Clothes & Weather

During my menopause I have lived in mostly hot weather places and hot weather places that can get cold in the winter.

There are tons of clothes in my closet. Well, for me it is tons. My wardrobe fully fits my half of an 8-foot closet, some baskets under the bed, and a nightstand.

I don’t own a lot of clothes simply because I don’t like wearing them.

But clothes are a necessary evil.

For two of my current positions in life I need to wear a uniform of sorts. One is of my choosing, the other is not.

One of the necessities during menopause is to only wear clothes that I can get out of in a heartbeat when a hot flash hits. And I do mean a heartbeat. I think it is more because when a hot flash starts, my skin burns and becomes super sensitive to anything. Even if my hubby is touching me during the start of a hot flash, it’s like, stop touching me...NOW. Probably not great for his ego but it is not something I have control over.

So, most of my clothes are easy and simple to get out of, and not for a good reason.

The 1950s were great but could you imagine all of those clothes? Having to be dressed and clean looking upon serving dinner? I need to be in shorts and a tank top at all times. When I sit home working, that is exactly what I am wearing. There may be a chill every now and then, but I have my trusty 20+ year old sweater and my favorite pair of Jammie pants. I got them from Amazon, and I love them. It was a year ago so they are probably gone now but I purchased two pair. My Hanes short socks are perfect when my feet get cold.

What about when I have to go out? Layers. My life is layers. A tank top, a pullover and a light sweater.

So, I like to be able to swim in the ocean all year long and the only way to do that is a wetsuit. I tried a few on but full body wetsuits make me claustrophobic especially when the zipper is on the back. Totally dry, I could not get out of that thing fast enough. Ending up with only a top half, front zipper thing helps. It’s not perfect and I need to be able to get in the water up to my waist before it works. Still trying to figure this one out.

Now back to the uniforms. How do you ladies do it? I have met a chef, a few realtors, ladies in construction and I asked them all how they manage and many of them do not. It is incredibly difficult for them to concentrate on work when their bodies have turned against them.

What do you wear for your menopause?
