Menopause and Scents – How do you smell to others?

Ok ladies, stop over perfuming yourselves. (Ok, yes men too, but this is a chicks blog and I’m talking to women.)

Just stop. The world is BEGGING you.

Everything we buy, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body lotion, body wash, perfume, laundry soap, liquid softeners, dish soap, etc., is scented.

So how many of these products do you use in a day? Are they all the same scent?

How many different scents do you use?

I stick with anything that is either unscented or lavender. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion. All one scent, all Lavender.

But y’all are killing me. And I am sure it is not just me.

You just need to smell CLEAN.

Hubby and I went to pick up an ex friend a while ago, last year actually, and when she got in the car, I could not breath. I had to roll down all the windows. The next time it happened, I had no choice but to say something and I wasn’t nice about it because it was offensive and not the first time. I had been to her home, and she had every product under the sun and all with different scents. It was just nasty...and unnecessary. I would have hated sitting next to her on a plane. Ack.

I met a lady once at the beach and she asked me to drive her to the market after. Oh dear lord. The overwhelming nastiness of the smells. It didn’t smell that bad on the beach but get into an enclosed space and phew.

And airplanes. I will complain and ask to move seats if your smell is overpowering. It is not right to infringe what you THINK is a nice scent on the rest of us.

For much of the human race, unscented soap and water is all you need. Seriously.

I like using lavender because the smell has a soothing effect on me and not one product I own is overpowering because I ask. I ask hubby, I ask friends: Hey, how do I smell? Is it too much? If you can smell me from across the room, I am wearing too much. Same goes for you.

There is perfume in my house. 2 bottles that are now discontinued brands, which will last me to my dying breath as I use them so sparingly. Overpowering our own, natural scents is, well, unnatural. The animal kingdom is scent driven. Humans have lost that ability. What if you lost your potential soulmate because you simply over-perfumed yourself. I wouldn’t have dated my friend a second time, I may have run out on dinner.

There have been way too many women in my life that just use too much stuff. You don’t need to 1) Waste your money, 2) Smell nasty.

We have noise pollution, now we have Smell Pollution.

Be kind. Go ask a friend to be honest with you about how you smell. And then tone it down from there.
