Menopause and Traveling

I totally needed to re-visit this subject.

During my menopause I have avoided requests from friends to hang out and spend the night because my menopause is so exhausting to maintain. Then hubby and I traversed the US to get from one coast to the other the hard way. That was a test of his love for me.

The other day we did a day trip to Kauai and being without all of my accoutrements was aggravating. There was an obvious need to travel light as we were just perving the island because hubby has never been. The hot flashes got me, the nausea got me, the whole body wanting to climb out of itself got me.

We are planning another trip, this time longer and with multiple flights to places where some of the things that quell my symptoms are not allowed.

How am I going to handle this? My body is so sensitive to change now. The introduction of new foods may send my body into a turmoil unbeknownst to me. Or it may not. Sadly though, with menopause you do need to plan for the worst right?

I have already emailed my doctor to see what kind of anti-nausea pill can curb my morning sickness and to see if there is something else that can calm me during the travel portion but there is nothing for the hot flashes which I am sure will plague me during this trip.

Unless menopause ends before my trip....

I can hope, right?

Have you had an adventure and survived without your “must haves”?

Tell me your story. How did you hold onto yourself during this trip? What modifications did you have to make? Were they better or worse than what you were doing at home?
