Menopause at Work

Last night I watched Password on TV. Yvette Nicole Brown was a contestant and she appeared to have a hot flash during the taping. Suddenly she bent down and a hand fan appeared. She then asked a general question “Is it hot in here?”

Imagine having a job in a place where multiple people work, and you have to deal with hot flashes, nausea, and voodoo pains?

This is a scenario I cannot visualize at all.

While Europe and Australia are starting to address Menopause in the workplace, we have had no mention of it here in the US.

How do you cope? I have been rather lucky in that I can work remotely and change the AC anytime I want or jump in a cold shower, sit with my knees up to my chest so I don’t puke. Is a workplace going to allow you to do all of that? What happens when the exhaustion hits and you cannot keep your eyes open to save your life, much less work. Are you going to get that break time at a regular job?

Until our generation, this had never really been a problem. There have never been so many women in the workplace and most of them are designed for men and their needs.

It is time business owners with in-house employees learn to address this scenario and help their workers become more productive during this trying time in their lives.

Tell us how you deal with menopause in the workplace. Submissions will be published at my discretion.
